John Felmy

John Felmy is Chief Economist of the American Petroleum Institute (API). His areas of emphasis are the economic, statistical and policy analysis of the Institute. This includes managing the production of the Institute's weekly and monthly petroleum statistics. He has thirty years experience in energy, economic and environmental analysis. He received a Bachelor's Degree and Masters Degree in Economics from The Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in Economics from The University of Maryland. His specialization is in the macroeconomic, regional and industrial impacts of energy and environmental policies.
John is a member of several professional associations including the American Economics Association, the National Association for Business Economics and the International Association for Energy Economics.
Prior to joining the API in 1998, he worked for eighteen years for consulting firms ICF, DRI and PERI. In John's earlier years, he spent time working on a sawmill in Central Pennsylvania. However, working on a repair crew for the Tidewater Oil Pipeline in Pennsylvania was what ultimately sparked his interest in energy.
